    Q & A.
Question: All the seeking has resulted in other people's answers (I realize I am talking as if I was a separate entity, but how else to ask the questions). Is there ever a place where I know for myself, as you know for yourself, or does one take it all on faith?
And, if there is no purpose or meaning to any of this other than to experience it, there is a certain despair that accompanies that aimless pointless existence.
Answer: What I read here is the mind talking and being confused. Now let's do some mind/logic loops together.
The mind may be over active, doubting or confused, but..... there must be 'something' presently aware of this, which clearly and without confusion, recognizes confusion as confusion. In other words, something KNOWS this confusion and is not confused about what it knows. It recognizes doubt, and knows without a doubt, what doubt is.
This knowing is unknowable, just like sight cannot be seen. The knowing is the Mystery; IT is the True Self. It is not some-THING known by some one, IT is the very knowing ItSelf. The mind does not 'know' how to deal with IT when it senses this. it cannot turn this knowing into the known, and is thus like an eye that franticly turns in an attempt to see the source from which sight arises.
Seeing this clearly will not result in a me or you knowing IT, but there will be a willingness to be in 'not knowing.' Please think this through and it will be clear why the mystery of knowing can never be an object to ItSelf. Can the sun throw light upon ItSelf, can you kiss your own lips, or touch your finger tip with that very same tip? Seeing the logic of why it is not possible to know the Knowing-That-You-Are, the mind might give up and relax. It may still do its dance, it may continue for a while on its own momentum, but something unseen, sees all this. You ARE This Seeing Presence right now. It is THAT which knows the thoughts and THAT which allows you to report 'your' thoughts. It is THAT which remains, while thoughts come and go.
You know the reason why existence is pointless. You know it with your heart, not with the mind. The mind is looking for the point and for fulfillment. Here is some more logic, say that ultimate fulfillment is the point the mind is after and wants. Say that the mind gets it, then after that, what is the point then? The point of fulfillment IS fulfillment. The Awareness you ARE IS Fulfillment. That is the reason why it is pointless; IT is IT'S own very point. IT is not going anywhere, because IT is already everywhere. It is IT'S OWN FULFILLMENT. IT is complete even when from the limited perspective of the mind IT seems to appear as unfulfilled.
IT is not an experience, but the in-experience-able experiencing ItSelf. Good moods, dark moods, doubts and clarity tumble by. Let them go, let them be. THAT what sees this IS the Mystery. You are THAT. The still center of the storm, the heart of hearts, no goal, but FULFILLMENT ItSelf.
No words from another here, these are YOUR OWN WORDS, from Self to Self with Love.

The background of the objective world

Sound, form, touch, taste and smell can never exist by themselves. They always need a background to support them.
The background cannot be seen by the sense-organs. Names are usually given to it without its nature being known.
There is the scent and the beauty (form) of a flower. But who knows what a flower really is?
There is the same ignorance regarding the background of every sense-object.
The substratum of all is one and the same. Diversity is only of things perceived.
The substratum remains unperceived; therefore there is no diversity in it. That is existence, that is one's self, that is consciousness pure, beauty transcendent and the abode of peace.

Let it Be
When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. Yeah
There will be an answer, let it be.

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be,
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Meeting between Kalu Rinpoche and Zen master Seung Sahn
There's this wonderful story about the first meeting between Kalu Rinpoche and Zen master Seung Sahn:
The two monks entered with swirling robes - maroon and yellow for the Tibetan, austere gray and black for the Korean - and were followed by retinues of younger monks and translators with shaven heads ...
The Tibetan lama sat very still, fingering a wooden rosary (mala) with one hand while murmuring, 'Om mani padme hum,' continuously under his breath. The Zen master was already gaining fame for his method of hurling questions at his students until they were forced to admit their ignorance. He then would bellow at them, 'Keep that don't know mind!'
On this occasion the Zen master reached deep inside his robes and drew out an orange. 'What is this?' he demanded of the lama. 'What is this?'
This was a typical opening question, and we could feel him ready to pounce on whatever response he was given.
The Tibetan sat quietly fingering his mala and made no move to respond.
'What is this?' the Zen master insisted, holding the orange up to the Tibetan's nose.
Kalu Rinpoche bent very slowly to the Tibetan monk next to him who was serving as the translator, and they whispered back and forth for several minutes. Finally the translator addressed the room:
'Rinpoche says, What is the matter with him? Don't they have oranges where he comes from?'
