Q & A
If or when you have a question you'd like to see answered in this newsletter mail to: Question: Some Advaita teachers say: 'Recognize who you really are, train in that recognition and get stabilized in that recognition'. Others say there is nothing to gain, there is no you; there is just this!
The first approach offers me a method to deal with my emotions, frustrations and my mistaken belief of being a person; Although I appreciate the latter approach it offers me no method to attain stabilazation in That what I really am.
Do you have suggestions how to deal with these opposite approaches?
Answer: Methods for dealing with emotions are fine, but they belong to the realm of psychology and have very little or nothing to do with clear seeing. Such methods are about comforting and adjusting the person. What is discussed here is about seeing through the person as an illusion, not about giving the person methods. The person working on the person is as likely to succeed as a trap that has been set to catch it self.
The problem with trying to get THERE, is that it automatically confirms NOT being there. It confirms that there really is a separate you that has to get somewhere later on. This keeps the illusion of separation and time alive and well. There truly is no separate character to reach a future state of timelessness.
This is about the recognition of what it truly is that lives, thinks, sees, breaths, through and as the apparent character. It is the One Substance. It is as it is, just THIS; Presence Awareness.'Little you' can't become stabilized in it, but YOU are That.

What is real? For one instant, abandon all formulas, answers, beliefs, expectations, and efforts to improve or achieve a result of any kind. What remains? Is the mind looking for an answer? What if you give up that search and rest in the immediacy of what is? The sounds of the traffic, the hum of the vacuum cleaner, the cheep of a bird, the breathing. Just this, as it is.
Seeking the extraordinary, we overlook the bare truth. You are here. You know it beyond any doubt. You don't need a mirror or an outside authority to confirm this fact. It is undeniable. But are you the character in the story of your life, or the inconceivable awareness through which all stories (and all perceptions) appear and disappear?
This aware presence has been called God, the Tao, the One Mind, the Absolute, the Self, but the words are just words. This that the words point to can never be lost or found, practiced or attained, for nothing is outside of it. It has no opposite, no other. It can never be seen or experienced, and yet everything you see and experience is it.
There is no "you" apart from this to either get it or lose it. The "you" who is seeking the truth is a mirage. "You" cannot wake up from the mirage of "you." There is no one to wake up. The truth has never been absent. Everything is included in the truth; nothing is left out. Unconditional love (or awareness) IS allowing everything to be, just as it is.

Identity Q: "How does one seek union with God?"
A: "The harder you seek, the more distance you create between Him and you."
Q: "So what does one do about the distance?"
A: "Understand that it isn't there."
Q: "Does that mean that God and I are one?"
A: "Not one. Not two."
Q: "How is that possible?"
A: "The sun and its light,
the ocean and the wave,
the singer and his song
-- not one.
Not two."
From Anthony deMello on the Spiritwalk web site at:

From the book Awakening to the Dream Imagine watching a movie in which two men walk toward you. The setting is a desert. The sun is blazing overhead, and a huge mountain range is visible in the distance.
One of the men stops and says to his companion, "Do you realize that this is all an illusion and we are just variations in one single light appearing as us, the sun, the sky, and the whole landscape?" His friend looks puzzled as he continues. " This whole world we see is a flat screen, though it appears as if there is space all around us."
Now his friend gets slightly worried. He thinks perhaps his buddy has been affected by the heat, so he asks, "Are you feeling all right?"
"Absolutely fine! It is just suddenly obvious that all this is really nothing but a very clever illusion appearing on a single background."
"Really," says his friend getting slightly annoyed. "Please show me this background."
"Well look, here it is; right here touching us, carrying us. It contains everything we see." He turns and points to the screen. His friend follows his finger, but sees nothing but the far off mountains.

Seems any human nod,
